The Girondins de Bordeaux Bastide Handball Club has been working with Fair-Play for the planet labeling process for several months. This eco-responsible label was created in 2020 in partnership with the Environmental Transition Agency (Ademe) to encourage clubs, sites and sporting events to improve their performance by caring for people and the environment.
“We are already working hard on the social and human aspect,” explains Fabien Drouin, director of the Girondins de Bordeaux Bastide Handball Club. “Accessibility to sport for all audiences, gender diversity, but also a social, cultural and intergenerational dimension, professional integration, sport and health, interventions in nursing homes, food-related events, against screens…”
Environmental dimension
All you have to do to get this label is to check the environment respect box. The club has already raised awareness among its members through concrete actions: buying water bottles to save plastic bottles, raising awareness about selective sorting, workshops on soft mobility, promoting the use of cars, raising awareness about global warming by creating a mural.
Finally, the club got a company to do a carbon assessment that would lead to recommendations to improve energy consumption. The rating will take place in June 2025. “We will be the third French handball club to receive this label, and the first amateur club,” concludes Fabien Drouin. A good spot for this historic Bastide club.
