Merguez, which may contain residues of recalled veterinary drugs

Halal merguez found on the shelves of Métro stores, supplier of numerous national brands, and produced by the Breton Jean Chaplin slaughterhouses, are being recalled across France, the Rappel Conso website shows. The containers in question were mainly put on sale from June 25 and would remain on sale until July 20.

In detail, it concerns the following parties:

  • 970/241770035, the expiry date is set for July 13.
  • 970/241770036, the expiry date is set for July 13.
  • 970/241770037, the expiry date is set for July 13.
  • 970/241770047, the expiry date is set for July 20.

The exact nature of the contamination is not detailed, only “veterinary drug residues”. As for the health risks of consuming merguez, they are also not detailed yet.

The government’s dangerous product warning site, Rappel Johnson, advises openly in his file to consume these products, but also to return them to the point of sale where they were purchased. The customer will then have until Saturday, August 3 to receive a refund as compensation.
