New Aquitaine maintains its place as the 2nd region of France

Despite the positive balance of producers, the decrease in organic areas, as at the national level, should be attributed to smaller projects and a sharp decrease in areas devoted to large crops. There was also a decrease in forage areas, but this was offset by an increase in grass areas. Thus, while the SUA dedicated to organic matter shows a slight decrease at the national level (from 10.5% to 10.4%), it also decreases at the regional level (from 9.4% to 9.2%).

Organic farming was on the menu for the regional discussion of stakeholders in the sector this Wednesday at the Regional Council. We hope to re-mobilize the consumer by relying on information, education and renewed confidence

However, with 9,057 organic farms or 13.6% of the region’s farms, 3,53,834 hectares certified or in conversion, and 3,056 companies (processors, distributors) downstream in the sector, New Aquitaine maintains France’s 2nd position in neighboring Occitanie. It should be noted that the share of organic land in viticulture is the highest (19.4% of agricultural land), followed by Dordogne (15.6%) and Lot-et. Garonne (14.5%).
